DRUGS OVERDOSES INSIDE U.S. PRISONS
On Episode 71 of Going Rogue with Lara Logan, Bureau of Prisons Director William Marshall addresses the alarming flow of drugs inside federal prison facilities.
Lara describes cases where fentanyl, K2, and ketamine are being dropped into prisons by drones, leading to inmates overdosing alone in their cells with no immediate help available. In some cases, prisoners are only discovered hours later during morning rounds.
Marshall confirms that overdoses are happening regularly across the federal prison system, with staff administering Narcan sometimes multiple times a day. He also reveals that correctional officers themselves have had to receive Narcan after accidental exposure while searching cells or handling packages.
With over 156,000 inmates and 36,000 staff across federal facilities, Marshall says the Bureau of Prisons is battling a constant influx of drugs being smuggled into prisons, and admits the problem happens far too often.
