On our latest episode of Going Rogue with Lara Logan, Lara Logan opens the conversation with filmmaker Mike Smith about the overwhelming response to ‘Out Of Shadows’ and why the subject matter refuses to fade away.
Despite controversy and attempts to discredit it, Out Of Shadows has become one of the most viewed independent documentaries in the world, translated into countless languages and watched by millions across continents. Its reach alone tells a story.
Smith says he receives thousands of messages from people who admit the material is simply “too dark” to process. The details are disturbing. The implications are heavy. Many say they want to turn it off.
But as he explains in this exchange, imagine being the child who doesn’t get to turn it off.
Imagine being the survivor. The trafficked. The groomed. The manipulated.
Lara presses into the deeper question: if it’s uncomfortable to watch, what does that say about our responsibility to confront it?
Smith’s response is clear. As citizens of a republic, as protectors, as men and women who claim to care about truth, there is no moral option to look away.
Perhaps that is why the Epstein conversation is not going away.
