In thjs clip from the latest Episode 62 of Going Rogue with Lara Logan, Serbian businessman Bogolub Karić recounts how his family became pioneers of private enterprise inside a communist system. Born in the city of Peć in Kosovo, the Karić family had lived for centuries alongside Albanian, Turkish, and Muslim neighbors with no division or conflict.
Despite coming from a family of Orthodox priests and refusing to join the Communist Party, the Karić brothers were personally encouraged by President Tito to begin a private business in their garage. What began as an experiment quickly became historic. Within a few years, they had established multiple factories and employed hundreds of workers, becoming what Karić describes as the first true private industrial enterprise in a communist country.
Today, that same family business employs more than 30,000 people worldwide, many from across the former Yugoslavia, including Kosovo, Bosnia, and Croatia.
