Trapped Inside a Floating House
On the night of May 23, 2015, the Blanco River rose with unimaginable force. Jonathan McComb’s home was ripped from its foundation by floodwater, and a cypress tree slamming into the side before the entire two-story house began floating downriver.
Hays County 911 timestamped his wife Laura’s call at 11:11 p.m.:
“It’s coming up to the second floor… we have no exit out of the home.”
Eighteen minutes later, another call came in from a woman saying their house was “down and floating.” The line suddenly went dead. Moments later, the home collided with the Ranch Road 12 bridge, shearing off the second story.
This is the opening to Jonathan’s harrowing account of loss, survival, and the faith that carried him through.
