“Parallel construction” is a term to describe what the FBI does to hide the origins of an investigation from the court. It was used after 9/11 when the FBI relied on the NSA database to go after suspects. They justified it then by saying they needed to protect sources etc - but after Edward Snowden revealed the NSA was using warrantless surveillance, two federal judges separately ruled the NSA warrantless surveillance as a violation of the 4th amendment and declared it illegal. So essentially the FBI uses information gathered illegally in violation of the 4th amendment/constitution, then they go back & create a “parallel’ chain of evidence to use in court so the judge does not know the true origins of the case. They hide it from the court and the law and the defendants.
